How do you evaluate a contract manufacturers experience and capabilities?

Evaluating a contract manufacturer requires looking beyond claims about quality, expertise, or service. The strongest way to assess a potential partner is to ask for evidence that shows they have successfully supported products with requirements similar to yours.

    Look for Relevant Manufacturing Experience

Ask what types of products the manufacturer has actually built and how closely those programs match your own. Industry experience alone is not enough. A complex electromechanical product with hundreds of parts requires different capabilities than simpler PCB assembly or box-build work.

Meet the Team Behind the Program

The people assigned to your product matter just as much as the facility itself. Meet the engineers and program managers who would support your program, and understand the experience and continuity of the team.

Review the Quality System in Practice

Ask to see how the manufacturer manages quality day to day. Reviewing example device history records, nonconformance processes, and previous audit findings can provide a clearer picture of how disciplined and transparent the organization really is.

    Ask for Comparable Customer References

Customer references are most useful when they come from companies with programs similar in size and complexity to yours. This can help you understand the level of service and attention you can realistically expect after production begins.

Evolve Manufacturing encourages prospective customers to tour its Fremont facility, meet the team that would support their program, and speak with customers running similar programs. Evolve is ISO 13485:2016 certified and FDA-registered.
